As the largest and most spectacular Brazilian gala in the world, the Brazilian Carnival Ball is an international benefit annually held in Canada,- raising over $53 million dollars over its 42 year history- gala proceeds benefit a selected charity each year. 

Proceeds from the 2009 Brazilian Ball will benefit the SickKids Research Institute, Canada’s first child health research facility. 

Prior year’s recipients include world class non-profits such as the Louis Pasteur Institute

The Volvo Ocean Race , an around-the-world yacht competition, is held every three years with routes changed to accommodate various ports of call; 2008-2009 routing for the first time includes stopovers in the Middle East and Asia. Starting in Alicante, Spain on 11 October 2008, race will run over 39,000 nautical miles in nine months.

Usually departing Europe in September or October, the Volvo Ocean Race encompasses 9 or 10 legs with in-port races at many stopover cities. 2008-2009 race legs include:
