Fashion? Check. Do-Gooding? Check. Fabu-Delish? Bien sur!

Design Cares: Kaleidoscope of Dreams event benefiting the St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital – one of the world’s premier pediatric cancer research and treatment centers- is a kaleidocope of Designers, Celebrities, The Altruistic and The Socialites such as Iman, Phillip Bloch and Lydia Hearst!

Quite touching, two current St. Jude cancer patients wishing to be fashion designers when they grow up,  have been paired with designers Christian Sirrano (of Project Runway Season 4) and Tian Justman, a former St. Jude patient and cancer survivor!

The children’s drawings will be interpreted for the runway and auction by Sirrano and Justman. How wonderfully karmic and haute couture of them both!

As a fashion benefit, Design Cares 2009 features culinary delights, an auction, dancing and a runway show launching the Models of Hope.

Socialites and celebs with a mean walk and good hearts will gather pledges as they showcase creations by designers Carolina Herrera, Catherine Malandrino, Diane von Furstenberg, John Galliano, Marc Jacobs Collections, Maggie Norris Couture, Nicole Miller, Vera Wang, Yigal Azrouel…

*The Faux Socialite© swoons. After reviving The Faux Socialite© with spritzes of  Quelques Fleurs Royale Eau de Parfum, PA Birdie secretly asks PA Jessica if swooning is a regular occurrence. PA Jessica rolls her eyes in exasperation.*

Held at The Armory, You, darling Faux Socialite,  can obtain tickets here or by contacing Leanne Stella at +1.212.239.3239 or leanne.stella@st.jude.org. 141st Belmont Stakes

9 12 2008

6 June 2009

The Belmont Stakes, a “crown jewel” of American horse racing’s Triple Crown – Kentucky Derby, Preakness and the Belmont Stakes – is the third and last leg of this horse racing series held at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York.

Betbelmont.com

Due to the one mile length of Belmont Park’s main track, this race is called the “Test of the Champion”; most 3 year old throughbreds are unaccustomed to the distance, lack  experience, and possibly the stamina to maintain a winning speed for long period on this course. The race is 1.5-miles (2.4 km) for 3 year-old colts and geldings carrying 126 pounds (57 kg) , and fillies carrying 121 pounds (55 kg).

The Belmont Stakes, called the “Run for the Carnations”, has rich tradition dating back to 1866; contemporary traditions include, the winner’s blanket of white carnations, post-parade songs “Sidewalks of New York” and theTheme from “New York, New York” as well as the Belmont Stakes Festival.
